Steven D. Cochran, LCSW, BCN, a licensed clinical social worker, is board certified inneurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). Mr. Cochran earned a BS in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Houston, graduating Cum Laude. He earned his Master of Social Work degree from the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston, with honors. His experience includes an internship at the Children’s Assessment Center where he received extensive training in childhood trauma, PTSD, group therapy, and play therapy working with sexually abused children.
Mr. Cochran served as president and CEO of Southwest Health Technology Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit, from 2007 to 2015. SW Health was a leader in school-based neurofeedback interventions, as well as a pioneer in addictions research utilizing neurofeedback. Mr. Cochran created Neurotherapy Center of Houston in 2007 to offer neurofeedback to Houstonians for a wide range of conditions. Mr. Cochran is the owner and clinical director of the Neurotherapy Center of Houston, LLC.
In 2011, Mr. Cochran published an article titled “Corporate Peak Performance” in the journal of Biofeedback (Volume39, Issue 3, pp. 123-126). He has been a frequent guest lecturer at the UH-GCSW since 2010 and has acted as an instructor for the didactic training course necessary to obtain BCIA certification.

Laura L. Durkee, a licensed professional counselor (LPC), is board certified in neurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). Ms. Durkee earned her Bachelor of Science degree, in Psychology, from Texas A&M University in 2010, then went on to complete her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Houston Baptist University, graduating with honors.
During her post-graduate internship at the Fort Bend Juvenile Probation Center, Laura received extensive training working with youth ages 10 to 19. Laura worked with adolescents facing complex challenges such as trauma, family conflict, substance use, academic struggles, and mental health disorders. Using evidence- based approaches- including Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma- Informed care interventions- she provided individual, group, and family therapy. This experience deepened her commitment to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, Laura offers neurofeedback services as a way to support brain-based healing and self-regulation. She values combining evidence-based practices with a compassionate, individualized approach to help clients reach their personal goals.
Laura is dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes. She believes therapy works best as a collaborative process—one where trust, respect, and hope guide the path forward.
